Commentary
This work is a quintet of polyphonic instruments, (violin, cello, guitar, percussion and piano), written in a single movement where I used fragments of the melody “Lili bat” by Mikel Laboa. Sometimes, melodic cells will be heard as isolated pitches, as timbres in motion in the sound time and in the space; other times, we will hear them as melodic curves that are paraphrased, developed and modified in a polyphonic texture; at other times, they will be the germ of the guitar’s “solos”, an instrument that acquires a main solo character at various moments of the work, other times they will be used to create dialogues between the different instruments … On some occasions, these melodic cells will be easily recognizable and at other times, they will be hardly noticeable. The use of melodic motifs from “Lili bat” and the preponderant role of the guitar, an instrument that Mikel Laboa always played to accompany his songs, are a nod to his memory and my personal choice to pay tribute to the figure of the artist.
